Want to make a difference? Join the Edwardsville Police Department as a Public Safety Telecommunicator. This position performs dispatching via radio, computer and telephone of police and fire personnel, in addition to answering 911 calls and non-emergency police department phone lines to dispatch. Responsibilities also include entering all data from phone calls into the dispatching system, processing walk-in inquiries and delegating them to the appropriate personnel.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to prioritize and work independently in a high-volume and fast-paced team environment
  • Sound judgment and strong problem-solving skills; ability to react quickly in crisis
  • Commitment to customer service and exceptional follow-through
  • Ability to work in a high stress environment
  • Must pass extensive background investigation, which may include a polygraph and/or psychological examination

Benefits:

  • Starting salary $63,806 - $74,369

Lateral Entry Telecommunicator Qualifications and Benefits:

  • Must be currently employed as a full time telecommunicator for no less than 12 months and no longer be in probationary status
  • Must be currently a certified EMD with the International Academies of Emergency Medical Dispatch
  • Awarded 36 hours of sick leave upon completion of training program
  • Awarded 36 hours of vacation upon completion of training program
  • Lateral telecommunicators can have their starting wage reflect up to a maximum of year (step) four of the current annual base wage scale if they have achieved up to four years of service with their current employer as a full time telecommunicator.
