Since 2013, Republic Services has partnered with the Edwardsville Police Department to provide a safe method of disposing of many types of medications, thereby keeping these items out of our children’s hands, landfills, and water supplies.
The medication disposal receptacle is located in the lobby of the Edwardsville Police Department, 333 S. Main Street, and is open to the public around the clock every day of the year.
Acceptable Items
Medications accepted in the disposal unit are:
- Over-the-counter medications
- Prescription medications
- Veterinary medications
- Vitamins
Items Not Accepted
Items that will not be accepted are:
- Aerosol cans
- Biomedical waste
- Compressed gas containers
- Medications from businesses, physicians’ offices, or clinics
- Mercury thermometers
- Needles / sharps
