Pharmaceutical Disposal Program

On Tuesday, September 17th, 2013 Republic Services presented a pharmaceutical disposal receptacle to the Edwardsville Police Department at the city council meeting. Republic Services has partnered with the Edwardsville Police Department to provide a safe alternative to disposing approved medications, thereby keeping the medications out of our children’s hands, landfills, and water supplies.

The medication disposal receptacle is located in the lobby of the Edwardsville Police Department, 333 S. Main Street, and is open to the public 24 hours, 7 days a week, 365 days of the year. 

Acceptable Items

Medications accepted in the disposal unit are: 

  • Over the counter (otc) medications
  • Prescription medications
  • Veterinary medications
  • Vitamins

Items Not Accepted

Items that will not be accepted are: 

  • Aerosol cans
  • Biomedical waste
  • Compressed gas containers
  • Medications from businesses, physicians’ offices, or clinics
  • Mercury thermometers
  • Needles / sharps
