Help us identify the water service line material in your home

In accordance with the Illinois Lead Service Line Replacement & Notification Act, the City of Edwardsville is compiling a required inventory of water service lines. The City is committed to reliably providing clean, safe drinking water to residents and businesses. To fulfill that duty, we are asking for your help in identifying whether there are water service lines made with lead in your home.

Please note: The City’s water source contains no lead and the City has had a very successful corrosion control program by implementing a treatment program at the City’s water treatment plant.

Lead pipes were banned for use in U.S. public water systems and in new construction in 1986. But lead previously was a material used for some plumbing lines. The City has compiled an extensive database of water service line materials used in many of our houses. However, we have a sizable number for which the service line composition is unknown. 

HOW CAN YOU HELP?
The Public Works Department has sent letters to the properties where the water service line material is unknown. If you receive a letter, please help us to identify the water service line material in one of three ways:

  • Take a picture of your service line and email it (along with the address where the photo was taken) to: publicworks@cityofedwardsville.com
  • Call Public Works at (618) 692-7535 and let staff know the service line material.
  • If you are unsure of the service line material, inform Public Works Staff and an appointment can be set up to inspect the service line.

QUICK REFERENCE GUIDE
