Water & Waste Water Treatment Plant

The Edwardsville Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants are operated and maintained under a private contract with Veolia Water North America-Central, LLC.

Water

Water is obtained from a well field, located near the treatment facility, which pumps water from the American Bottoms underground aquifer. The water treatment plant is capable of producing 7.2 million gallons of water per day. The average daily production for 2018 was 4.36 million gallons of water.

Water Pressure

Water pressure is maintained in the system by two elevated storage tank and additional water storage facilities which includes two ground storage tanks. Copies of the current Water Quality Data report and chemical analysis of our well water (prepared with data provided by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency) will be mailed to each customer or can be obtained by calling 618-692-7535.

Sewage

Sewage is collected by over 100 miles of sewer mains and is pumped through thirty-two major pumping stations to the wastewater treatment plant. The plant is an activated sludge facility that incorporates aeration, bacterial digestion, and lime stabilization in the treatment of solid wastes. The current plant capacity is 9.268 million gallons per day.
